Dragonets

I'm in the process of setting up a 150gl reef. I definetly want to keep two dragonets. Past that I really like gobys, watchman, sleeper, plus blennys. I also have been looking into jawfish. My question is with the dragonets which gobys, blennys or jawfish, would be fine to put with them? Also so some of the articles I have read say the jawfish are aggresive to goby like fish. So any info on these fish and good tankmates would be great. I would like to keep the fish population to around 5-8 of these small fish. But for sure the two manderins. Thanks any info would be great.

Thanks

Kyle

Forgot to mention if it's even relevant, the reef will be mostly sps. Plus I will be culturing pods to keep up with the dragonets diet.

In a tank that size most will be fine. Just use rocks and inverts on the sand bed to create seperate areas.

My watchman goby has never bothered my manderin. It took me a few times to keep a mandarin. Most at the lfs were in such bad shape they didn't make it after 2 weeks. The one I have now is doing very well and is acually a little agressive. I have a 125 stacked with rock and lots of pods. I got lucky to mine will eat pelleted food rolling around on the bottom.

Please wait at least 6-12 months before purchasing the dragonettes. Otherwise they will probably die.

I agree, wait on the dragonets until the tank has been setup awhile.

Also, the jawfish are agressive, but only close to their burrows. I wouldn't see an issue.

I ahve had 2 yellow head jawfish jump out of my 125. I like them but have given up on trying to keep them. Does anyone else have this problem with them? I thought it was crazy since they stay on the sand

I didn't have problems with mine jumping out when I had them. I even kept a blue-spotted with a yellow-headed goby. Did you house the two fish together? What other fish did you have with them? I only had them with gobies/blennies/pair of clownfish until a tank problem (low oxygen or toxin, I believe) killed all my fish. I did keep egg crate on the first month I had them and for a short-time after adding each new fish. When jawfish get scared, they are known to jump, similar to fairy wrasses.

I have found the jawfish to be peaceful unless a fish get's really close to their burrow. I keep him with a ywg both fish are peaceful by nature a tolerate each other very well. I forsee no problems with your plans for jawfish, gobies, and dragonets

My Black Sailfin Blenny was fine with my Mandarin for several months, but one day I came home to find him beating the mandarin to death. It took him about 3 months of living in my sump to recover.

Thanks for all the info. I plan to wait about 6 to 8 months before adding the dragonets. I will be culturing pods so I dont think keeping them fed will be a problem! My tanks demension is 4'x4'x30", with that you dont think that it will be a issue with the fish I would like ti keep. Thanks

culturing pods is a great idea! Will you be just keeping a refuge for them or a whole seperate tank? I plan to breed my pods in an attached fuge. .

My canary fang blenny has no issues with my dragonet, but they live at different levels in the tank. Fang blennies are more free swimming. My shrimp/goby pair doesn't even care when my dragonet hops by the den, the goby barely looks at it.

I will be using a seperate tank for them. Also I plan on using a 75gl cryptic fuge, this way they will breed in the tank also. I plan on culturing Mysids and rottifers also. I have a really great book on culturing about anything you can think of. Thanks
