dragonface pipefish

Pipe species can be quite different, in how they move and what foods they eat. I think dragonface pipes would be an appropriate choice for many reef systems. Consider them similar to mandarins in where they hang out and their dietary requirements. Unlike seahorses and some of the slower moving, straight (rather than more serpentine) "perching" pipes, I don't think they are so risky with carnivorous LPS and anemones.

That said, like mandarins, they belong in a mature tank with plenty of pods. There is no guarantee they will take frozen food or even live brine shrimp.

Seahorses can be especially vulnerable to corals and predators because they are weak swimmers and tend to blunder into things. I actually had a squamosa clame close on a seahorse once - only her head and tail were showing. I was able to get her out and both survived. But I no longer keep seahorses and clams together.
