Drain Idea?

Right now I have a 1.5" pipe as my drain and it 90's from the tank, over about a foot, 90's again and down about a foot into the sump..............tons of bubbles and gurggling.

Do either of these 2 drawings look like they would help?

Running around 700-800 gph through the drain.

Actually, the durso is quiet, it's the bubbles of air entering the sump from the drain pipe that let out big gurgles. Sorry, should have clearified that.

I believe what you are trying will be at least somewhat effective. Make sure that in either case the outlets are both under sump water. I believe this will make it a little harder for water to exit the drain pipe which will back water up and it will exit in a solid column. This should reduce noise. I don't know if this will help with bubbles. If the outlet is higher than the water level you might have a mess on your hands.

I am doing the following with very little noise and no bubbles.

All the water typically flows up and out the filter sock catching any bubbles. If the sock is saturated and starts to constrict flow the 4" pipe will start to overflow. I cut the notch in the side to direct which way this water will flow. I just slip off the filter sock every time is see the overflow and rinse it out and slip it back on.

I just heard about Google SketchUp (free program) on a post about a CAD program here in the DIY forum. I couldn't help but try it out. It was a snap to make that image. And would have taken a too much text to be worth describing.

That would work, only problem is I don't have the room for a 4" pipe in the sump.

Isn't there always something we wish we had space for?

have you tried venting your drain pipe just above the water line? thats what i tried firstafter i installed my durso and it worked pretty well, then again my flow is in the 300gph range so it might not work so well for you.

Whaddya mean they dont mention noise... thats the whole point of them at least? Less bubbles/air = less noise.

There is a link at that page to this as well... its my solution for bubbles, noise, etc...

They didn't mention noise specifically in the solutions, just bubbles. You can create a lot of bubbles without noise. But just because you don't have bubbles doesn't mean you don't have noise. Quite a few times the bubbles are effectively dissipating in a pipe, but the noise comes right out of the walls of the pipe. I have had trouble quieting my overflow pipe for this very reason. I had a durso and it was tuned perfectly. My noise was eminated from the pipe. I was even using spaflex

By the way. I have been following your "drain muffler" thread. I like it. It's a nice piece of work. Good concept. I might try something like that.

Thanks. Im pretty anti-noise myself. I made one that has been running now for a while... not a peep and no problems. It really works. It takes the speed out of the water as it falls, and that keeps bubbles and such from getting in very well. And with slower water, there is less noise as well.

I have my two drains going into 2 quart jars setting in the bottom of the sump. One could also add some rocks to help break the flow up in the jar before it comes out the top.
