dried live rock cleaning

I have a bunch of dried live rock, aka dead rock :), that has been sitting around for a few months.

Can I assume that anything bad that was on the rock is dead by now?

I'm rinsing it in RO water and scrubbing off any of the salt that was dried on.

What should I do next? Can I put it in my sump, or should I boil it first to make sure it's clean. Again, it's been out of water for about 5 months.

Thanks.

I'd soak it in RO for a few weeks and do the normal dip and swishish to get all the loose dried up debris rinsed off. If you throw it in your sump you may end up with milky white out in your tank for a little while.

I dont know the condition of the rock but I did clean my dried up rock by putting it in the reservoir above my toilet that fills up with water befor flushing .I had it in there for a week than took it out and let it dry.Just make sure you dont have any blue stuff in there .Its like cureing cement for frag bases.Thats an extreme ,but you never know what dried up in there, before it went dead.

Best bet is to do the rinse like Mike said then get yourself a tub or tank and mix up some SW and toss it in. And hook up a skimmer on it and let it run. If you put it in your sump it will start a cycle. I cycled my tank with dry rock only. You will be surprised what comes out of the rock as far as stench!
