if you've never been there, turn in at the official pandapas parking lot first (it has a fancy sign) and take a quick walk around. take the kids, they'll dig it. though i wouldn't take any wood from there. it's probably against the rules. get back out on 460 and drive up to the next road, labeled 'forest service road' on the linked google map. follow that downhill till it bears right and levels out, that's where it runs parallel to the stream that flows out of pandapas (poverty creek). there's a bike trail that also runs parallel to it. it's almost certainly dry this time of year. just look around in the dry creekbed for driftwood. try not to get any pine/hemlock though, but chances are if it's weathered yet still solid and hasn't rotted away completely, it's not pine/hemlock anyway. and i'm not really sure of the rules on taking driftwood. it probably falls under the same rules as firewood collection, which you can only do in certain areas and need to buy a permit for. but if you are only grabbing a few pieces you won't have any trouble. just don't try to fill the back of a pickup.

another place to look is anywhere along the new river. just watch out for poison ivy.

Sounds good ..I will definetly be checking it out ... As of now I had to buy a few pieces online ... I am working on a set of Terrariums for Poison Dart Frogs...Should be pretty cool looking if all goes according to plan ... I will need a few decent sized pieces soon though ...

Wes got some a few years back somewhere at a stream or river, I'll ask him which one. It was much better than whats in the stores.
