drilling glass

Might need to check on the 1" from the edges. How large are the holes? If I'm reading the drawing correctly, you have the holes one inch "on center" away from the edge. That would put the edge of the tank and the edge of the hole very close. Is this one inch from the tanks top trim? If so, then that would be good. I can't quite read the number from the edges, but if it's only 1 inch I would move it in more. This is only my opinion - which I'm always willing to give :D

ReefArtist...I think what looks like a 1 is a 4.
BlitzK...I'm not going to use a dam. I'm going to drill outside and run water from a hose over the drill area. One other hint I picked up from some sites online that sell bits is to cut a hole in a piece of plywood that matches the glass hole saw and use the wood as a guide to start the glass hole saw so it doesn't walk.

If you don't have any clay (or alike) stop by walmart and get some modeling clay so you can build a water dam. Keep fresh water in there and keep cleaning out the drill hole area.

I did mine outside and clampped a garden hose above the area to be cut and let it run slowly. Worked great the couple of times I've done it. I have pics somewhere on a thread here, I'll see if I can find them

Cool. I did the water dam and then every ~20-30 seconds I took the hose to it to clean it out. I just didn't want too much water splashing up into my drill.

I started out using the clay dam but then it gets to a point that you can't see where you're cutting because of the glass dust. I ended up taking the clay off and just using a hose in the lock position and that worked great - much cleaner and I think it's better on the bits.

Sorry about misreading your drawing - I didn't think you would drill that close to the edges but just in case . . .:D

yeah the numbers are hard to see.i still havent found out if the tank will be available for me to pick up on friday.they told me to call back later today because they have alot of stuff arriving today.my fingers are crossed that my tank will be there today.

I bet it would be nice to have just before the weekend. I've been getting my 65G together since the "Incident". It's starting to look nice now. I have water flowing and the first coat of primer on the stand. I haven't started the canopy yet - that will be another day. I really like the extra 6 inches in depth I got, that really makes a difference in a reef tank. Will you be keeping your 38G up or is the 75 replacing it?

well my home internet is crapping out on me(i think its my router).so this is from work.im going to get the tank, they told me i had to wait till next thursday so im just gonna get a 90g.going right after work to get it.

the light upgrade was a given.i plan on running 2/250mh 10ks and 3-4/36" vho actinics.and yeah i will be happier with the 90 vs 75.i just got home and still have the tank in my truck bed.i gotta wait for my brother to get home to move it inside.

Sweeeeeet! Take a look at the new Megaflow - they have nipple ends. Mine are 1" and 3/4" which I didn't know until I started putting it together. Another trip to HD took care of it. It is so QUIET, I can hardly hear it and I'm sitting right beside it now. Nice!

im soooooooooo ready to drill it. :mixed: is it wrong for me to want to drill 7 holes in this new tank? lol
