Drilling into stand legs

Should I be worried about drilling into the legs along the narrow side as shown inside the green box? I want to add doors and drill small magnets onto the legs, 2 holes on each narrow side. There are some imperfections as seen, is this likely to split if I drill into it? I treated the whole stand with 2 coats of water sealant and 2 coats of enamel paint several months ago.

It shouldn't split if you drill it. I don't see a problem with your idea.

Pre drill, add as many screws as your heart desires.
