Drilling question??

When drilling a glass tank what is the best method?? A pilot whole and then maybe a rotozip to make it the right size or a whole bit that is already the right size for the bulkhead. Also what type of bit should I use?? I tried a carbide bit for tile and it didn't work at all...

Diamond tipped hole saw can easily be found on ebay for farily cheap. Get one that is the size you need for a particular bulkhead. You will not need any pressure when drilling. Look for the thread in this forum somewhere about drilling glass. A lot of information in that thread alone!

Get one of those diamond core bits. (Thats a great link, I paid like $40 for my bit!!!)

Start a pilot "groove", Build a water retention dam out of clay, add water, start drilling, little pressure, low RPM's. The thicker the glass the easyer it is to drill.

You need something like this.

That's where I got mine, just make sure you get the right size for the bulkheads you get. Should be 1 3/4" for a 1" sch 40 and 2 3/8" for a 1 1/2" sch 40. MAKE SURE!!!

BTW this guy's customer service was great, delivery did take about 2 weeks though so don't be in a hurry.

And to answer your question about the drill press, you really don't need to use this. Also, you may have a hard time getting the tank under the press. A hand drill will work fine.
