did anyone drill into the wavy sea outlet plumbing to create a siphon break?

i need to break siphon on this thing or I will overflow the sump. i want to think through some options before drilling into an expensive piece of equipment.

any better ideas?

I take it that you're running if off your return pump? If so, you'll need to drill it at or just below the water level. Be sure to drill into the bottom elbow or riser - NOT the part with the O-rings.

If it's for a closed loop, there is no need to drill it.

It's running off the return pump, so I need to break the siphon.

I know what you're saying, but it doesn't completely make sense. It seems I cant really just drill ONLY the bottom elbow. Seems like I would have to drill into the part with the O-rings.

If you think about it, if I were to drill into the elbow only (below the O-Ring part), seems like the hole would already be below the level where the elbow normally opens into the water and breaks siphon on it's own.

I think I need to break siphon somewhere slightly higher up.

I thought that might be the case - I have a Seio mounted to mine and couldn't remember exactly where it hits. Any chance you can raise the unit up higher an use the extension piece that comes with it? Then you can drill it. I'd be scared to drill the one piece that's not easily changed out...

Looks like it comes with a special acrylic bracket to raise it up a bit higher. I'll have to play with that a bit.

BTW, Can that piece with the O-rings be changed out? Is it even removable (I didnt try)? If so maybe I can buy an extra/replacement and play around with drilling holes in there.

I haven't tried but I'd guess that it's not to easily removable as it's the part that rotates. Send them an E-mail - they respond pretty quickly.
