dry liverock back in tank?

Hey guys,

i have about 120lbs of live rock that i took out of my tank 3 days ago. Can i just put them back in or do i have to cure the rock or something.

did you keep them damp? youre going to have to cycle it again. you may luck out and not have to if you kept the rock damp or wet but becareful if you livestock in the tank you are putting it in

What about if it three years out of water?

no i didn't keep them damp. I took them out of the tank on saturday morning. So they were out with no water all of saturday, sunday, and monday, then today i poured some of my tank water on them and they're wet again.

smell the rock, if it has a very distinct odor, then that means there has been die off. Now if there is nothing in your tank, i would just add it int here cause theres nothing it can really kill. otherwise, you may have to recure it if you have live stock and it smells bad. When it's cured it doesn't smell like much of anything.


Now regarding rock thats been out for 3 years. Basically its no longer live rock, its just ...rock :lol: Now of course if you put it into a tank and after time, it will re-seed itself and become "live rock" once again.
