Dry Sand from Old Tank

I received some dry sand from an old tank for free. It looks fairly clean and I was told it was CaribSea type. I am going to have to buy additional sand but this would save me some money. Is it okay to use dry sand? If so, how do I prep/clean it? I am in no rush and will be curing dry rock in the tank for a long time anyways so time is not a factor.

I would just put it in a bucket and rinse it until any crud or sediment is gone.

Put it in a bucket, turn your hose on full and push the end of the hose to the bottom and back to the top of the sand over and over until the water runs fairly clean. Dump as much water out as you can and let it sit for a day or to (it will evaporate the chlorine from the house water). Then it's good to use.

You can do a final rinse with RO/DI water if you are a real stickler for making it super safe. I don't bother and all 3 of my tanks have used sand.
