Dry side rubbing spacer.

I am having and issue with the dry side rubbing against the small spacer. My tank is 3/4 so I only use the small spacer. The motor started to squeak a couple of days ago. I pulled the motor off the tank to clean everything and I notice the middle of the spacer was starting wear in the middle. What could be wrong?
