Drying rock to remove unwanted pests

I picked up a piece of LR from my LFS today and want to add it to my established DT. However, I don't want to risk adding any pests or worse, ich or other nasty stuff. So, my question is how long do I need to leave the rock out to dry to eliminate that stuff? Is there a quicker way? My biggest concern is that it is effective. Thanks in advance.

Soak the rock in 1/3 bleach 2/3 tap water for one hour. Then spray the rock off with a hose and soak overnight in water/Amquel. Allow it to dry a full day in the sun and you should be good to go. It is less expensive and a lot less work just to purchase dry rock in the first place.

You should of just bought dry rock vs live rock. Dry rock is ususally around $2 a lb or less vs LR being around $6 a lb in my area. I just set my rock outside to dry for a month since I bought an established 40g tank and it had bubble algae and aptasia. I wasn't in a rush to add the rock and set it up since I have my 125g. When I set up my 40g I just used a hard bristle brush to scrap everything off the rocks and cleaned them out with the water hose. You can do the bleach which my LFS recommended it to me when I bought a bad LR from another LFS

:fish1: Why do you want to kill all the life on and in the live rock? I wouldn't worry to much about unwanted pest, you could always soak the rock in a low saline solution say around 1.015 or so and that would remove most unwanted pest. If you buy your rock from a LFS and It is cured I highly doubt it will have any unwanted pest. :fish1:

I understand dry rock is cheaper. However, I was looking for a very specific piece to go in my DT and found it in one of their tanks. I just want to make sure I keep anything harmful out of my tank, as I've been very careful setting my tank over the years and don't want to bring something in on the rock.
