Specifically a Biocube 14gallon. Think its worth it? Will it even work? Is this too small a footprint to have a sucessful dsb?

Thanks!

from what I've read at various nano forums, the general consensus is that the square area is too small.

I have a 10 gallon skimmerless nano 4 years old that it trouble and nuisance algae free with a deep sanded.

I also have a three year old 10 gallon with a skimmer, sump, and refugium that I'm always removing nuisance algae. It has a shallow sandbed.

fwiw,

fwiw,

How deep is the sand bed? Yeah I have a year old 12 gallon nano-cube DX that is having the same problem. It too has a shallow sandbed. Also has a refugium. Of course no skimmer. Gets weekly water changes. Im changing over to the Oceanic Biocube though so I was thinking now would be the time to do a deep sand bed, if ever I was going to.

I put a 20lb bag of the fiji pink in my BC14... Im guessing its about 3-4 inches deep.

I have no idea if this counts as a DSB

I have a DSB in my 10 gal AGA. And my Tiger Pistol and Goby loves it.

I'm planning on running a "remote deep sand bed" (RDSB) on my 30 gallon tank. There is a lot of information on this topic in the advanced topics section of this forum.

I'm just using the aragonite sand you find at the LFS's. Something fine that wont choke out the goby(Dont want to have a UFC tapout tank.).

Started out with fine Southdown 2" deep but the AC 70 kept pushing it to the back. Finally gave up and added coarse substrate, not crushed coral but one step down, to keep the sand in place. It's 1" deep in the front and almost 6" in the back

Okay thanks, appreciate hearing from you! Well I have decided to go dsb on this biocube 14, I just picked up 30 pounds of the oolitic stuff, hopefully it will get me about 3" Do you think that is enough or should I get another bag? They are so expensive at my lfs $30 for $30lbs!!

FWIW, I have a 10g nano that I put in 20lbs of Fiji PInk AragAlive and 10lbs of Reef Sand AragAlive.

Total of 30lbs creates about a 4" DSB. I also have a sump loaded with bubble culupera and cheato. I run a Taam Rio Nano Skimmer and do a water change of 2g each week. I never have issues with nusiance algae and my NO3 stay at zero.

I would say it's a great idea, IMO.
