DSLR Camera backpack

Hello all,

I recently got a Canon 40D and plan on doing some Hiking and outdoor shots as well as tank shots.

Can someone recommend a good, comfortable, and affordable backpack?

Thanks,
Chris

Backpacks come in all shapes and sizes. What is going to work depends an awful lot on how much gear you want to carry. Most of the dedicated photo backpacks have very little room for anything other than camera gear. I've got a Kata R103 that I like but there's no room for anything other than camera. I make my wife carry the food. :)

If you're talking about more than just some light day hiking it might be best to buy a good hiking pack, that fits you well, and just a padded case for the camera.

Good Idea about the day pack and padded camera case.

I would be just doing a hour to couple hour hikes, so I really do not need a ton of room. Also I was kinda looking at this pack as being my everyday camera bag also, but if that is not feasible then I can always change my mind..

Thanks for the advice,
Chris

Everyone is a different size. You really need to find a store where you can try on several. There's nothing worse than a day of hiking with a pack that doesn't fit right.

Lowepro are very nice backpacks. But personally, although I bought mine for exactly what you stated, I ended up using it for a camera bag, I rarely put it on my back.. When actually hiking, I like to take the camera and a couple lenses and my backpack is full of candy bars. Taking all the gear you have in a backpack is heavy and often unnecessary. For short jaunts I like a vest. You can't reach gear in a backpack.

Thats just me

Canon camera backpack. $37.75 at Amazon
http://www.amazon.com/Canon-Backpack-200EG-Cameras-Greenish/dp/B00009R6TA

Considering how expensive bags usually are, this is a total bargain. I had to order one for my gf once she saw mine. I dont know what else to say, it holds my camera and all my gear well.
Only thing I didnt like was the metal Canon logo on the bag (dont like to advertize too much) but I clipped it off so its all good.

I TOO bought this backpack Spline. It holds everything nicely and comfortable to carry. I'm heading to Walt Disney World next week with it to give it a real workout. price is worth it.

That's actually what I do most of the time as well. My backpack has become, largely, just a travel bag. I can put nearly everything that I need, for short trips, in my vest (including a few bottles of water).

Check out the Dakine Sequence backpack. Its a snowboard bag with a camera block in it. It is waterproof, super comfortable, compact, and best of all it does not look like a camera bag. I wore this bag all over Europe for a month with no problems. Went hiking in the Swiss alps with it even in a little rain and it was extremely comfortable and kept all my gear dry. It has a side pocket on it for carrying a shovel which i used to hold my tripod. I'd highly recommend it.

Just make sure you get the version with the camera block in it. It also comes w/o the camera block for the non-photographers.

i use the lowepro CompuDayPack. It holds the camera and has a spot for a laptop. it is comfy and does all I need it to. I like being able to go out in the woods, shoot and take a break and play on my laptop while i have lunch.
