Wow... I dosed DTs Oyster Eggs for the first time last night. I have NEVER seen such an insane response from my corals ever. I was never feeding my corals before, but DTs will be a regular at my house now on.

So what do you guys feed your corals if anything, and how often?

Thanks,

Slavearm

I have some of that. Just getting into SPS. Did you target feed or just dump some in and turn off the skimmer?

I've been using DT's oyster eggs for a few months already, but when I dump it in the tank, I don't see much response from the corals. I just mix half a teaspoon in a little cup of tank water, shake it a little, and dump it in front of my pumps and let it spread throughout the tank (skimmer off).

I'd like to know when and how often you dump yours in the tank and which type of corals respond the most and what response do you get?

Thanks

i put mine in at night shortly after lights off, turn return pump off for 20 minutes, and sometimes early morning before lights have come on.

I think DT's has phosphates, so I just use Roti-Feast now.
everything organic has phosphates in it

Not necessarily true. Hydrocarbons (like methane, ethane, propane, butane, etc.), for example are organic yet have no phosphates in them.

When you say lights off, do you mean after ALL lights are off (actinics also) or just after the Metal Halides go off but the actinics are still on?

While this is true, it is not useful. We don't feed hydrocarbons to our tanks.

Any food item is going to have phosphates in it.

all lights off, i don't run actinic on my 90, which is where i feed oyster eggs.

and i shouldn't have been so general, and instead said that any food item will have phosphates.

Be careful when you make generalization because the chances of you being correct decrease. Your statement, for example, is a generalization...again

I did it right after the main lights when off. I just killed the skimmer, and dumped in tank. I can't kill the return pump, because that goes to my little frag area and I want the frags to eat too.

What happened is just about every coral in my tanks polyps jumped out. I mean like 3 minutes after adding it to my tank... everything had polyps fully out. Acros that grow well and are healthy, but never really exhibited polyp extension in my tank were all over it. I bought mine from Black Coral Hawaii (LFS). Marine Depot carries it as well if your LFS doesn't.

Yeah, the only REAL reason to be specific, is because there are always people trying to correct others and make themselves look better.

Comments like these ALWAYS take away from the REAL discussion and are NEVER constructive to the discussion.

But anyway, I used DT's Oyster eggs myself and didn't see much difference when I was adding them. Especially for the price.

The Phyto is a different story however. Love the stuff!!

Yikes. Common, you two. Kiss and make up. :)

Nothing personal by any means.....but there is ALWAYS someone doing this for one reason and one reason only.........to make themselves look "smart" and its just not productive to the discussion.

Because honestly, what was the point? A chemistry lesson? We have all seen this a million times.

There are ALOT of people on the site with degrees relating to the hobby and years and years of colabrative experience....I get tired of those comments, because in life there is always someone faster, younger, and smarter than you are, and only WISE people know that.

But like a fool I took the bait and am the one side tracking the discussion.

Sorry, long day, please continue
