I recently put a nice Duncan in a 90 gal reef. The file fish went straight at it. Luckily, I was able to get the coral out before to much damage was done. Based on this, I vote that it's the fish!

yeah and i hate to take it out because I have one aptasia that it cant get and its right behide the BTA. So I guess i will have to find something else to take the ducan corals place.
1) I wouldn't call that dead, I would just call that highly receded. I've seen mine get in that direction when ****ed off, but it's pretty rare and generally recovers quickly.
2) I'm going with the something attacking it theory. Even with crummy water parameters I doubt you could kill one in under a couple weeks if other LPS are doing well.
3) Have you tried putting a cage made of something like egg crate around it to see if something is going after it? I would glue the egg crate to something with substance like rubble and bury that in the sand so it doesn't get pushed off overnight.
4) I would guess not the emerald, I've never had issues with them.
5) Peppermints (careful on the ID) will go after aiptasia. Berghia have worked well for me in the past too.
When you say good water flow they dont like too much in my experience ive had mine 3 years from 10 heads now 100 or more and now fragging try a less turbulent area?
Found out what was killing the duncan coral and it was my file fish. I bought a nice colony with about 13 heads at my last. Was walking by and saw my filefish nipping at it so I caught it and put it in my refugium. So maybe I can keep Duncans now lol.
