Anyone install heat registers before? I need to tap into the main tree and install 3 branches and registers in my basement, but have no clue what I really need... Help?

You can get everything you need at Home Depot or Lowes. I'd grab both red and left snips. If you can, install your dampers at the trunk so you don't get so much noise at the register. Being in your basement, I'd say you'll have lots of noise coming out otherwise.

It's the cutting into the trunk that I have a hard time with... Just don't want to screw it up. Not sure how it's all supposed to go together. Haven't worked with sheet metal since 8th grade and we were welding then, not sure how this is supposed to go together.

Eric, I have yellow handle snips I think they are either Center or right. and I also have a rivit gun and rotozip or die grinder. LMK if you need anything, or help.

No probelmo. I have never done it but, I can ask my contractor neighbor, hell, he may even come by and help out, he is that way. Can't do it tomorrow but can after 2pm any day from Sunday to Thursday.

LOL!!! Yeah, code requires heat... :(

Thanks Paul, want to plan on Monday and Tuesday at 6? I figure Monday will be for shopping... I have no clue what I need to get.

Yellow's are straight cut. I think they're worthless but if you had to pick one pair, pick the red handled snips if you're a righty, green if you're a lefty. You won't need rivets. For each run, you'll need: 1 take off; 6" flex duct; 18" wire ties; duct tape; 6" damper; and a register which varies on whether it's drop ceiling, rock or open space.
Use the edge of a flat head screwdriver and a hammer to open up a hole in the trunk whenever you've located where you want to head off to. Cut your hole, insert your takeoff and run your flex. The damper is up to you. You can buy a register with a damper built in but they're too noisy for me.
After it's all installed, you'll have to work on balancing your rooms so you don't have one boiling and one freezing. That's when you'll play with your dampers.
