Dumb newbie question

Ok, bought a 30 gallon today, it uses a hang on overflow. How do I start the siphon??? lol Both my other tanks are reef ready.

The guy gave me this small piece of tubing to use to start it, dunno what I am supposed to do next.

fill the back with water untill it drains down the tube...make sure theres water in the tank section part...make sure both ends of the u tube are under water...put the airline hosing into the top of the U-tube...turn on pump...suck air out...water should start to flow over into the back and then down the drain...if not turn the pump off and try again...good luck!

Ok. fill the sump with water, fill both sides of the overflow box with water.

If the pump sucks the water out of the back of the box and runs out, won't sucking air screw it up?

Thanks for the help btw.

fill your sump to the highest point you would want water to be at with the system off...when you turn the pump on it will pump water into the main tank, rising the level, making the u tube push water into the back, causing that to fill over the level and therefor drain back down to the sump. also, by filling you sump to the maximum level you would want to see it at, you'r gauranteeing yourself that if the power goes out your sump won't overflow. once the whole system is working properly, draw a line on the sump where the water level is, and that will be your max fill line, because if you ever fill it past that level and the power goes out the water that gets drained from the main tank will fill the sump and cause it to overflow...understand? I had all these questions when i started mine out, but now I got a RR tank. Thank god!

Ok, I have it running, need to test the power out thing next.

I did the suck the air out slowly until it started.

Yeah both of my other tanks are reef ready, but I have this one and another 55 that aren't.
