Duncan being strange

Okay, I have many softies, and I know a lot of the weird things they do.
I got my first lps about a month or so ago, he was doing great up until about a week ago.
He will suck in during the day and come out at night. He also looks different now.
Has my Duncan turned into a teenager on the weekend?
Water quality is about perfect.

That's a Duncan, Looks terrible.
Check your kh.
You say your water is "perfect", but just what are your parameters?

My PH is at 8.3 so that means kh is okay correct? Or am I mistaken?
I have a RKL controller so my temp swing is maybe .4+/- at most

Maybe, maybe not.
I'm thinking you don't know your kh/ca/mg numbers?
The numbers are important.
My duncan does not like it if my kh drops under 8.

That looks like either a trumpet or candy cane. If it's a Duncan, I apologize. Duncan's normally look like this:

Right off hand I don't know them.
I don't have a test for it.
Now that I have an lps maybe I should.
I brought a water sample to take to my LFS to test after work today.
Hopefully I'll get a better idea to see what's going on.

I hate to say this but that looks like my torch when it died. I think I have heard it called brown jelly.

Update.
LFS said my water is good.
My mag is a little low, but nothing that would cause my coral to do what it's doing.
It's still doing the same thing.
He said that it could be growing another head. He's not sure tho cause he's never seen one do what it's doing before.

Also he is at the top of my tank, could he be getting too much light?

Moved it to the sand be, he seems to be doing better. Looks like he could be On the road to recovery

My understanding is Duncans like the sand bed and will not open up unless they have lower moderate flow. Mine clams up if (a) my shrimp dances on it (b) something falls on it (c) I poke it or touch it--accidentally.

Anyways if your power heads are at the top of your tank I would think the flow rather than the light was the issue. Fingers crossed it looks so sad lol

Mine are halfway up the tank right in front of an mp10, always open unless eating.

Yeah, that's not necessarily true, at all. I have mine at the top under direct light and medium flow.
Started out as 2 heads, now at least 25.
For me, the key is never letting kh get under 7 and feeding often.

Interesting mine opens up to over 1 inch when sheltered from the flow but clams up and retracts when in the power head points at it! Maybe I have a strange specimen or tank set up lol. Good luck to OP with the Duncan keep us posted

Are you sure that is a duncan. It looks a lot like a button coral or some type of blasto coral. Both of those corals are nocturnal and would only completely open at night. My duncans actually close at night. Also duncan have clear tentacles that surround the head. When you fist got it, or saw it in the store, did it have tentacles?

100% sure it was a Duncan at some point idk what it's doing now lmao.
The polyps never touch the head.
