Duncan Coral?

Hey, you are all probably crazy thinking I'm asking about all these different corals all at once, but my lfs said that I get a free frag of one with purchases over 75$, and they look very cool in the pics I see. I think they are pretty expensive, right? Would the free frag with purchase over $75 dollars be a good deal? Or can I get a better deal somewhere else. My other lfs sells for $100 a head.

Anyway, what lighting, flow and feeding do they need? I have 96 watt. thanks, this should be the last post about lps corals.

Sounds good to me.

They aren't very picky about lighting but you should start them out low. They can tolerate a medium flow once they've established themselves. Feed them mysis every day and they will grow pretty fast.

Mine under T-5 (216 watts) 10000k only

You can never argue with free frags... :D You don't have to feed them, but as Animal Mother said, it will promote growth... They should be fine under your PC's...

We got three and a half for $80, so IMO that is a little steep. They grow likes weeds in our tank, especially with feedings.

Prices at different LFS around here range from $20-$40 per polyp but they aren't available very often. I waited for a sale and picked up a 4-head frag for $70.

What do you mean by a free frag with $75 purchase? Do you mean that you have to buy one head for $75 and then you'll get a 2nd head for free ($37.50 per head)? Or do you mean you spend $75 on some other coral and then get one Duncan head for free?

I got this colony for a little over $100....you can find good deals if you dig deep enough!

I meant that with every purchase you mAke thats over $75, you get a free drag of a Duncan coral. What makes them so expensive? The way the look, or are they really rare or something? And you said that the grew like weeds especially when fed, so I'm guessing they are easy to take care of. Do they grow by branches like a frogspawn's base? Or do they encrust onto rocks, and can they be placed on the sand and how bad is there sting if they have any? Thanks

The current market is willing to offer 20+ per head. The price will go down eventually.

You must attach them to rock or sit them on sand. They will not encrust. New heads come out near the fleshy part of the mother head and branch out. Not sure if they sting or not.

They do encrust but very slowly.

Awesome, these guys will work out in low-light?!?!? DUNCANS HERE I COME! I just gotta give my tank a little time and fix that bad connection on my light fixture that causes it to short-circuit and I'll have some duncans!

:D. Btw, how fast do these guys grow? I've only got a 90 gallon so I'll probably start out with 3 at MOST. Probably closer to 1 or 2 though. That and I'll get some dendros since they don't require a lot of light either.

But 260 watts from PC should be good, right?

FAST! I've had 2 different frags from the store i work at. The first i gave to my reef club pres. cause i thought I was getting out of the hobby. It had 3 heads in laste oct. this year. Now it has about 11. My 2nd frag I've had about 3 weeks and it's already sprouting 3 new heads.
I've got mine on the bottom of my 75 gal. they were about 10" away from my lights, to help color up. I'm running 2 250 MH HQI's, hamilton 14K

$25 a head at my LFS... used to be $100 a head but those were ORA and back before there were many others selling them.
