Duncan Fragging?

So I have a branching Duncan and I was wondering when and how to frag it. Do I just take a dremel to a branch and cut it off? Will the hole that leaves heal up just fine?

pretty much, just cut through the branch, it doesn't really leave a hole, you're just cutting through the skeleton. Don't cut too close to the head as you may start to hit live tissue. And the last thing, if you're using a dremel, they can heat the coral up pretty quick. I'm not saying try and cut through in 2 seconds, but don't sit it on the coral too long. There are some videos on youtube with duncans being fragged, watch a quick video, they are fairly easy to do.

I used a dremel tool on mine. Bought one with 1 head. Grew to 30 and way out of control, so I fragged it. Sad thing is, it grew so large it was getting stung by other corals.

Don't worry about cutting through live tissue... it's actually better to do it that way because you'll get a head growing back where you removed the old one! Just don't cut too close to the growing end of the branch. You want to leave enough tissue on the frag to make sure it heals up properly.

Thanks for the advice guys, I was pretty apprehensive about it. Feel a lot more comfortable about it now.

So the duncan and the newly fragged arm are both looking great and healthy, thanks again for your help guys.

lol, It looks a lot shorter then it actually is. The angle of the picture makes it look like i snipped it right by the head.

As an update, the hole left after I cut those heads off has grown into a new head and you wouldnt be able to tell I cut it at all very soon.
