duncan problem

it could be a number of reasons, direct flow, someone is picking on it, move it to a different location. I don't feed mine and it's always open, but you can feed it and see.

Feeding it is very good. It needs to eat a lot because it is not as photosynthetic as other corals. The more you feed it the faster it will grow too. You should treat them somewhat like dendrophyllias in terms of feeding.

Duncan's aren't 'less photosynthetic' than most corals. They contain the same photosynthetic properties, and don't need to be fed whatsoever, but benefit from it (as most corals do).

How are your water parameters? It could be reacting unfavorably to high nutrient levels, or possibly alk swings..

I've found that mine are very sensitive to changes in Alk levels. If you have not changed anything in the tank regarding flow or lights, then I would suspect your levels are off. When was the last time you checked your water? Where are your levels currently?
