+1 lower the flow mine where not big because lfs had a power head blowing close and once I managed to find a lower flow area the grow to about the size of a half dollar now.
Mine Duncans were doing great and having additional heads show and then all of a sudden they barely would come out. I found that a yellow goby was disturbing them. Once he stopped it still took a couple of weeks for them to come out. I feed them mysis shrimp once a week and they are coming out now.
I've had my duncans for years. I started with about 20 and know they tripled quadrupled in size. There was a time where I kinda negelected my tank and the only coral I had was my duncans. It bleached pretty bad and thought it was a gonner. Then when I started my tank up again, it came back and doing outstanding and got its colors back.
Sometimes they will close up for a day or two for no apparent reason (as far as I know) and then they will flourish after that.
Thought of something else. I dosed with Tropic Marin Bio-Calc. I wonder if some fell on the duncans before dissolving & irritated them. Just took a couple of days to feel better.
Yea that could be too. I had something similar happen with some zoas & water flow coming from canister filter filled with phosphate sponge. Took a few days for them to perk up.
It is deff. the flow that is causing this. When I first got mine I wasnt sure where to place them so I put them in medium flow and they did the same thing. When I moved them to low flow they recovered within a few days...Good luck!
