Duncans opening at night only now.

RAIDER NATION!
They used to open and stay open all day but now they only open at night. I'm running a 4x39 watt aquaticlife t5 with all ati bulbs in it. They're growing new heads like crazy though. I bought it 2 months ago with 4 heads and now there's 9. Tank is a 40 long, 48x14x15

First thing is Go Steelers, but do you have any flow that is on during the day and off at night? That could be something I would say lighting mine did that in my 180 under MH and then after a year of not opening during the day I moved them into my smaller tank and they open up all the time.

Flow doesn't change at all. Very gentle where they are also. maybe I should try to move them from underneath direct lighting?

Are they placed next to a coral that open during the day and possibly too close to the Duncans. My Duncans will not open if any other coral is even slightly brushing up against it.

When do you spot feed them? I feed mine around 8pm every night and notice they open up most around that time. Believe it or not they get used to the feeding regime, and will open at that time. However mine stay open all the time, just moreso near feeding time.

I might spot feed them once a week with a little bit of mysis shrimp. I actually fed them last night and they're still open. Maybe I'll feed them a little more often.

Duncans will go through stages and IMO you'll see this now and again. Usually mine will do this just before popping a new set of heads. In addition they may not like the lighting. The AquaticLife fixture is not the best but it does put a lot of light into the tank. If directly under a fixture it might be getting a little too much light, but it's hard to tell and moving them might not change anything for weeks. :)
