Durso Pipe With No Overflow Box

I HAVE A 72" X 24" X 32" GLASS TANK WITH NO OVERFLOW BOX

CAN I USE THE DURSO DRAIN METHOD?

THE TANK IS MARINE FISH ONLY.

I HAVE ALREADY DRILLED 3 - 1" BULKHEAD HOLES
2 - 1" RETURNS USING MOD-PIPE 3/4"
1 - 1.5 POTENTIAL DURSO DRAIN

CAN THIS WORK WITHOUT OVERFLOW BOX?
I WILL BE COVERING THE PIPES WITH AN ARTIFICIAL REEF INSERT IGNORE IGNORE TO PROTECT FISH COMING IN.

Im sure it would work. The idea of a over flow box it to skim the top of the water. I do not believe this would do that.

I tried a pair of Durso stand pipes with out a box for a couple of weeks and found my evaporative water loss was showing up in both the main tank and sump.

But, I've been using a different drain without an overflow box with good results. Except it's noisy. Each stand pipe consists of a 1" pipe with a T fitting on the top. Each end of the T has a strainer on it, and I drilled an air hole into the top. It's very noisy, but my water level in the tank is stable. All my evaporative loss is seen in the sump.

I'm also on a quest to run a box less overflow. Let me know if you have any luck.
