Dwarf Angels 125

Hey everyone, im creating my first saltwater aquarium again after having freshwater for the good part of my life. The tank is a 125 or maybe 180 depending on what i can put in it. At first i was going towards agressive fish but now im leaning to angels. Three that i really like are the Flame, Coral Beauty, and Lemon Peel. Could these 3 work togother or is the aggression to much? Maybe i could get 2 different species of clowns with them. Im not into schools to much, just very pretty and good personality species. I also saw a very pretty blue spot puffer. Would he be ok with dwarf angels or to aggressive? The tank will be full of Live Rock and some host anenomes for the clowns if i get them.

Ha i know this is a vague post just any ideas would be appreciated.

Hi

In a 125 you may keep the angels, I don't think they would fight each other. But I would rather go for less species and try to get pairs, it is just so much more natural. Plus: if you have pairs, the chances that they become nasty are much less. They are simply too busy to bother other fishes.
Regarding the clowns, it depends on the species, you may have two pairs if you choose nemos and the skunks, but if you get clarkis, saddle back or, even worse, spinecheek clowns (Premnas), then just forget it and go for one species. Some clowns are extremely territorial and aggressive when in mating mood (which may be every 2 weeks), so decide what you want.
How about a pair of flame angels, a pair of clowns (anything except spinecheek) and perhaps some 6 line wrasses. Do not keep them as singles, they are absolute nightmares, but small harems are great, the male is constantly chasing and displaying to the females to show them who is boss, if not another female will become a male and take over his place. Great little fishes, you never know how many you have in your tank as they constantly move in and out of the rocks.
As an algae eater I would add a lawnmower blenny, perhaps the fish with the most personality of all.
Drop the puffer, they look cool but I think they are too dangerous for a tank

Best wishes

Jens

Thanks Jen that was an awesome answer. I'd like to go with a pair of nemos and a pair of skunks, hmm how would i find a pair of angels though? Do they ever sell them as a pair? Also is there any other wrasses i could get? Or is that the only one, also are all these fish relatively hardy?

Ok heres a very rough draft list i just thought up.

1 Coral Beauty
1 Flame Angel
? Six-Line Wrasse
1 Flame Hawkfish
1 Royal Gramma
1 Pair of Percula Clowns (aquacultured)

Loads of live rock, around 150 pounds maybe? What amount of wrasses could i put in? Also what other fish could i put in that would be cool?

Well I will say that I keep two dwarf angels in a 55 gallon. I have a coral beauty and a bi-color angel. They were both very small when I got them and I did add them at the same time.
For some reason, my wife and I have had very good luck with doing things in this hobby that you normally wouldn't do :)

i had a jey hole and a cb in a 55 get a long just fine. put them in the same time. i had to take the key hole back about a few months later noticed him piccking at my brain.

i also plan on trying to keep my current potters angel and a pair of flame angels in my 72 but i will get the smallest of the smallest flame angels

So my angels will prolly be ok i just neeed to keep an eye on them. Could i get like 2 harems of wrasses? like some six-line and leapords?

I have a Flame and a LemonPeel.

The LP is a recent addition. The Flame gives him a little bit of a chase-around occassionally, but they are beginning to settle down.

Its kinda funny - I thought my YT would give the LP more trouble, but they seem to have buddied-up, and swim together around the tank !

I had 2 cherub angels in a 125 w/o any problems. I had one for several years in a 75 g. While I was upgrading to the 125g, I bought a second (smaller) cherub and kept it in a qt tank. I introduced both angels to the 125g at the same time. Never had any problems.

Ok heres my plan so far. The angels i really want are the lemonpeel, coral beauty, and flame. I think im gonna go with the coral beauty and flame though. So how many six-line wrasses would make a good "harem"? 4 or 5 maybe? How can i tell if there male of female? Gah im just so confused, with what i can and cant have. Ok anyways though, here is my swing at a list.

1 coral beauty
1 dwarf flame
4 to 5 six-line wrasse
1 royal gramma
1 Flame hawkfish
any other ideas?

The tank will be a 125 with lots of live rock and a big skimmer. i think the skimmer is rated for 300 gallons, and ill be using a 40 gallon sump. So i think ill have enough filtration. I just want more fish, and i want the tank to look active. Also I want some shrimp and crags but I dont want them to attack the fish or the fish to attach the inverts. Anyone have any ideas on that? Ha sorry for all the questions i just dont want my first saltwater aquarium to be a failure.

Oh haha and i want a pair of percula clowns with a host anenome. Only problem is i dont know how to care for an anenome. Gah i hate being ignorant.

I have a pair of flame angels & the male finds plenty of time to protect his territory which consists mainly of confining the coral beauty to the left quarter of the tank. He will even take a moment to chase the coral beauty during the evening courtship ritual. Angel pairs mostly ignore each other except during the evening spawning.

The puffer may nip fins of the slower swimmers like the clowns. If your clowns have large anemones this is probably a non issue. puffers like to eat snails & other inverts you may not want eaten.

The anemones need special lighting - once you've bought the special lighting, you'll likely start buying corals that require the special lighting too :D ;) So it can't hurt to be careful that you choose reef safe fish. :)

FWIW my flame gets along beautifully with my Herald's angel but picks on the cherub and the CB. If you choose angels from different genuses, it is easier to have everybody get along. For example my Singapore angel gets along with all the angels & come from a different genus than the dwarf (centropyge)angels

However the Singapore liked my clams & I had to move them to another tank

I think the best advice for you is to read as much as possible about every fish you're considering in addition to posting threads like this of course :)

Ha heres an even better question that i think will help me loads more. Whats the BEST BOOK i can buy on saltwater keeping? Something that will cover all bases?

i have a trio of hippo and a blue face angle and a coral angel. they are in a 180 and are doinf great for about 4 weeks now. I say just add all together
