Dwarf Angels...any experience? My wife now wants to choose.

I have a 20 long nano set up. Will not be ready for livestock for awhile. Still settling in. I am going to have either a goby/shrimp pair or just a lawnmower blenny. I also wanted a couple of fishies. I would like a picasso clown of some sort. Well...wife wants NO clown in her tank. Sooooo, what other option do I have for her. Showed her cardinals-nope, damsels-nope...what else? Dwarf Angels, Fuzzy Dwarf Lions....?

i dunno how a dwarf will act in a 20L, these guys love to swim. Maybe if you leave lots of open room a dwarf angel might be ok.

You could probably get away with a cherub angel or a flameback, but that's about it.

In my opinion, a single dwarf angel, or collected pair should do fine in a 20 long provided a few criteria are met.

-while live rock is important, in my opinion too much live rock can be detrimental. Fish need space to swim!
-find fish that are eating well, and not sick from the get go.
-mimic the environment the species you choose is from. For example, don't blast a colin's angel with super bright metal halides and don't keep a lemon peel angel in very cool water.

If you stick to these ideas and others, I have found that keeping the smaller dwarf angels in nano tanks can be accomplished with good results.

Every time i get a flame angel it dies the last one i had was doing great for 3 weeks and died.

In my opinion a 20g tank is too small for even the tiniest Centropyges. Even if you just flat out don't care about about the fish, you are asking for aggression problems.

In a way you're on the right track, but they don't want vast open spaces, they need lots of well seasoned rockwork with lots of life for their constant grazing. They eat stuff like diatoms and detritus (stuff rotting on the rock). The need an intricate loosely stacked set of rocks to swim through and around.

I realize that S Michael says 20g in one of his books. I don't know his reasons, but please disregard it. The smallest angel should have at least a 40g.

I am only asking because I do not know if I can do it. The information you provided me has given me the answer. I understand I can have a dwarf angel, but I'd rather it thrive as opposed to just surviving in my tank. CONCLUSION= NO dwarf angel for me.

When I said this," Even if you just flat out don't care about about the fish, you are asking for aggression problems." I didn't mean you specifically. I should have worded that differently. Sorry about that. And let us know how you do stock the tank! :D

No...I didn't take it personal. BUT, I do care about the quality of life for the fish I purchase. It is my job to provide a quality environment for MY purchase. I appreciate your reply, Thank you!!
