Dwarf Angels vs. Coral (LPS, Soft)

I've had a Coral Beauty Angel in my 29G for about a month now and he is doing very well. Currently the only corals I have are neon GSP, mushrooms, and ricordea. I plan on buying some frogspawn, hammer coral, and probably an assortment of other soft and LPS corals.

My question is what corals will these Aneglfish (if they decide to nip) go for the most.

Are there any other corals that Angelfish will defiantly not go for?

Angelfish experts needed!

Thanks a lot!

you can't be SURE, but they will go after zoos most likely if they are nippers.
I have a flame angel that never touched a single coral in my tank, but i also had a lemonpeel that wouldn't stop nipping my zoos. It's largely based off of the individual. From what i've seen... your safest with noxious corals for the most part.

IMO, if you want an angel of any kind, get it from someone who has kept it with corals.

Too late for that, I ended up getting this one because I went by a new LFS and they had it at an awesome price.

My question was though, IF the fish is a nipper, will it go for frogspawn and hammer?

Thanks for your comments.

Zoo's are noxious though aren't they?

Oh, okay. I asked a similar question on here about larger angels, and it seemed Zoos were commonly eaten. Hope that helps. :)

hmmmmmmmm still confused.

I guess I'll just add and see what happens. Worst case is I have to trade something back to the LFS.

If anyone else has knowledge on this please let us know,

Thanks.

Euphyllias are generally safe with most angels.

This is true, they are more of the "stinging" type.
I have a Coral Beauty in my 34 RSm and she is wonderful.
I have LPS, SPS, and zoos! nothing has been touched consistantly, she may have nipped on accident to get some algea but nothing more then that.

Meaty LPS are most endanger. Trachyphyllia seem to be Angel candy in particular ( other "REEF SAFE" fish also eat them too!). My Cherub WILL eat Zoas, that is the only thing it bothers. Nothing seems to eat Rhodactis mushrooms. PITY. LOL Other distasteful softies & some SPS seem safe most of the time.
There are no guarantees though! NONE

I agree with Shoel.
anything big and fleshy is very inviting!
stay away from trachyphyllias cynarias, and scolymias
they seem tobe OK with most else
good luck

Dont forget that while you are worrying about for coral, probably the best way to reduce the risk of an angel turning into a nipper is to feed it often and well. make sure it gets a wide variety of foods including both pellets and mysis. You also need to leave food in the tank it can graze on over time like seaweed on a clip and/or gel based cube of angel formula placed in a feeding clip (I like ocean nutrition brand).

A fat and happy angel is a coral friendly angel....maybe.

LPS corals are the most eatin. My coral beauty went crazy over my open brain when i first put it in. After a week or so it calmed down but still likes to go by and nip it from time to time. LPS are the "tasty" corals lol. All angelfish will nip from time to time, its just what they do. But in most cases dwarfs will not just go after a coral and eat it down to the skeleton, its a nip here and there and the coral will recover fast if its healthy.

From my experience the bi-colors the worst. I have a Potter's currently and he/she's been a model citizen so far.:p

My potter's is kind of a disaster.

on the menu - brain corals (nibbled down to skeleton), montipora (picked at polyps), anthelia (snarfed), acanthastrea, elegance (nipped), gorgonian (polyps nipped)

ignored (so far) - zoanthids, devils hand, nephthea, frogspawn, hammer, clams

Moral: you just can't know what they'll do once they're comfortable in your tank.

My Flame has been in my tank for over a year. I see him nip at my Xenia, but it isn't enough to bother it, because it is still growing really well. I haven't seen him nip at my Frogspawn, Hammer, Galaxea, Zoas, Leather, Ricordea, Mushrooms or Kenya Tree. HTH

Thats all very reassuring, I plan on picking up a Hammer and Frogspawn tomorrow and based on what I've read here, I think I will be fine.

My CB nips at my rockwork, glass, and sand now but hasn't touched my ricordea, xenia, GSP, or other mushrooms.
