Dwarf Angels - What Corals Do They Nip?

Do the ones who nip tend to like certain types of corals, or are they an equal opportunity coral eating jerk?

They prefer the ones in the tank with them, though I've heard stories of them jumping to try to get at the ones in the tank across the room.... :-P

they nip at everything. its just their nature. my flame angel and coral beauty nip at everything including clams. keep them well fed and they will nip less.

I had a pair of Potters that I bought from another hobbyist, and they never bothered anything. Unfortunately, I lost them both last year (kind of a tank crash). I'd like to add something else. I think I'll do it the same way again..wait for one that has been proven to be reef safe..

I wouldn't even count on that. I have personally had a "reef safe" angel, completely change just by moving it to another tank -- within my own house. If you have any dwarf angel in your reef tank, be prepared for it to nip at everything, and be happy if it doesn't. I currently have 5 dwarfs, and watch them nip all day long. Overall the damage isn't too bad, but it is there. However, any fleshy LPS will be eaten, completely.

I re-state my contention that "Reef Safe" fish are non-existant!
Let's throw out this overhyped sales pitch slang without further adieu!

My flame and potters love nipping on my acans. Thay have left the clams, chalices and all sps alone. Have not seen any serious damage so far. I try to keep them well fed.

My Potters likes to nip my one and only Kenya tree, but only once in a blue moon. Leaves LPS, SPS and softies alone. As stated above, there is no "Reef safe" fish.

it all depends on the fish i had a flame that nipped on everything and a coral beauty that nipped evrything as welll n i had to get rid of them....a few months later i couldnt resist and bought another flame and he still nips just not as much.....he prefers my wellsophyllia and my scolymia and my acans.....i see him nip on alll my lps though.....keeep them well fed n they tend to nip less

I had a Flame Angel for a few years that couldn't resist Xenia, Poclopora and Green Zoas, but didn't appear to bother anything else I had. But a Half Black Angel I had just had to nip at everything as it swam around the tank. I mean it would constantly nip everything, so much that they all started to look crappy. He was removed a few days later. From my experience, they can range from not bothering anything to nipping at everything. I know it don't really help, but it's an experiment each time, that I've decided isn't worth it anymore.

One LFS here has a few dwarf angels in a display with corals. The flame seems to always be at something, mostly frogspawn and softies, the coral beauty seems to never be near the corals. Some of this could be territorial though, they have a lemon peel that I rarely see out and about and if it shows it gets chased by the flame.

With all that, and all this on RC, I'm still so tempted to get a dwarf for my tank. :)

I have a blue pygmy angel. I have had him for a year and a half and he just started nipping SPS. I only have a few SPS in my tank and there is one in particular he likes to nip all of a sudden. Poor thing looks beat to hell. Considering a new home for this guy.

although I have never seen my flame angel actually nip anything, for a long time, my sps pretty much has no polyp extension. then when the flame died, now I am getting PE on everything. PE on millis are super long. I liked that flame.
