dwarf angels?

There are many centropyge angel's. Some more prone to nipping than others but none can be considered reef safe. Some keepers are lucky, most are not.

thats what i thought i am getting a dwarf angel yellow tank and a pair of clowns for free looks like the angel will have to sit in qt till i find some one to take it thanks guys!

I've had excellent luck with a potter's angel. Never touched a thing in 2 years. I've desperately wanted a Lemonpeel and tried on 2 occasions. As I was changing over to an sps dominated system I figured I could take a few hits on my LPS.....well, neither lemonpeel touched my lps, but both went directly to nipping my acros.

Flame, Potter's, and African flameback seem to be the popular ones for not nipping. But even with those, there's a chance they will.

I've seen my flame nip at some of my zoos before but thats it i dont have much sps just a couple monti cap frags and some other cats paw type thing and the flame doesn't mess with them.

I have a baby Potters in a 12 AP reef, and he doesnt nip at anything, he was kept in a reef at my LFS. Hasn't touched my elegance, various zoa's, mushrooms and frogspawn. He picks around the corals but not at them, he is not taking chunks of flesh out of them, but simply removing pieces of algae growth on their skeletons.

I have had very good luck with Flames, Potters, Coral Beauties, and Atlantic Pygmy

Like everyone is saying however, no matter what kind of dwarf there is still the possiblility, and nothing is to say that one day he wont go and eat all my coral. I am ready to tear my tank apart to remove him and its just something to keep in mind.

Some angels have a better track record than others, with the worst ones being below (at least in my experience and dealing with customers)

listed in order of worst to best in terms least likely to be reef safe
Lemonpeel
BiColor
Black Nox
Ebli
half black

Good luck, and hope to get lucky, remember ther is always a chance that a good angel will go bad...

BTW has anyone else been noticing lately, that peoples Blue Hippo Tangs are becoming less and less reefsafe, with more threads on them eating zoas and corals?

In my experience, i have had/seen good resutls with coral beauties and flames.

Have seen problems with lemon peels and keyholes. Every fish is different.

I have a yellow heraldi and a rusty angel in my 150g with soft corals and lps's and they NEVER touch anything. Pick at the rocks around them but never the corals. I feed twice a day and put seaweed selects in at least once a day so it may be my feeding schedule but I have never had a problem.

They are basically hit and miss... But my golden, banded, and multis never messed with a thing. Maybe took a bite out of some zoas, never LPS, or SPS... Definately do not trust with a clam, they tend to nip at the mantle while grazing.
