dwarf lion in a 40 reef?

what does everyone think of a dwarf lion in a 40 reef? i'm asking because i'm thinking of future stocking lists for my still cycling 40 gallon regular that i plan on turning into a mostly lps/softy reef with some sps (probably pocillopora) & a couple croceas or maximas.

i'll probably have a goby or blenny or 2 & some sort of colorful wrasse (not a sixline). other than that i'm open to any other suggestions as well as what people think of the dwarf lion.

The fish could become food. The lion will have no interest in your coral.

Some people have lions that won't eat fish or shrimp, but that is more rare than a rule. I would not count on it.

Bottom line is that they are reef safe, just not fish/invert safe.

lions that won't eat fish or shrimp are probably sick! that's what their diets are supposed to consist of. if they're well fed with frozen, you may be better off.

All dwarves will eat a goby, blenny, and a wrasse... unless it's a wrass that's twice the width and height of the dwarf lion.

so as long as i have other fish that are too big for the lion's mouth then they'd probably be ok? i wouldn't mind feeding the lion every day if that's what it would take to keep it from eating other fish & inverts.

if the fish is larger and not skinny enough to fit in the lion's mouth, you may be safe. To be very safe, twice as big as the mouth would be good. If you're going for a 40g tank, anything that big would not do well in a 40g tank =(

maybe a fumanchu lionfish and a large centrogype angelfish (though they tend to be coral eaters).

well, i guess the dwarf is probably not a good idea then. darn, they're so interesting! i probably won't have an angel because of their tendecies to nip at clams. i'll probably just go with a goby or blenny, a colorful wrasse or 2 & maybe a skunk clown.

I agree your fish and shrimp will eventually become food even if you feed the lion daily. But feeding every day can cause your lion to become ill, They should only be fed every 2-3 days.

I think you are right fishfanv a lion may not be for you at this time in your tank.
