Dwarf Seahorse Acclimation

I use three very large mixing bowls. In the first bowl I empty the bag with the dwarfs. The second bowl I have freshwater. The third bowl I have aged saltwater at the same pH & salinity as their QT tank.

I add about a cup or so of aged saltwater to the first mixing bowl every 15 minutes for an hour to acclimate the dwarfs to the QT tank conditions.

I then take the dwarfs and place them in the freshwater for a 5 to 10 min freshwater dip. Do NOT leave this bowl unattended - watch it carefully and remove any dwarfs which are showing severe signs of stress. If any lay on their sides, tap them on the tail to get them moving again. If any begin twitching or such, it could be a sign of parasites so try to keep them in the freshwater for the full 10 minutes if possible.

After the freshwater dip, I place them in the third mixing bowl to settle down for about 1/2 hour or so. Then I place them in their QT tank for up to 4 weeks.

I de-worm them by enriching day or two old bbs with PraziPro every three or four days for a total of three treatments.

Sorry.... I was assuming wild-caught dwarfs. My mistake. As long as you purchase CB dwarfs from a reputable source, you should not have to give them a freshwater dip or de-worm them. I would still put them in a QT tank for a week or two just to be sure they are eating well and adjust after shipping.
