Dyed Sun coral?!

I think my Sun coral was dyed! When I first got it, was was 100% orange, now, its turning pink! When I first got it, it would open up, but a tiny bit, its as if it couldn't extent 100% of its polyps, more like 30%, BARELY enough to eat, most of them couldn't. Its got 20 heads. I'll try to post up an update picture of it. Can anyone give me some advice? Will it die?

Generally the truly died colonies I have seen are red, and they fade to orange over time. Regardless, if the colony is healthy (just continue feeding it heavily for a while) it will live just fine after being died, just change color over time.

How long have you had it? Let it acclimate and see what happens!! Keep the feeding up should do fine. Make sure your feeding each head also!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can't comment on dyed corals as we don't have that problem here. But one thing I've noticed is colonies that haven't been well fed for a lengthy period can lose some intense colouration & even appear to change shade.

Locally I've noticed some Tubastrea sp that had a deep pink base pale out a lot if they're only fed frozen brine in captivity. Similarly deep gold polyps can pale out to a softer yellow, ie colour becomes weaker & less chromatic. But if you change the feeding their colour begins to intensify again. Just an observation.

I'm wondering if your coral hasn't been dyed, but is showing the effects of poor nutrition. So I'd try and use the bowl method to get all the polyps opening to feed and take it from there.

I'm gona say more food also. If I let mine go the color fades to a dull yellow. How often and what are you feeding it Moses?

I try to feed everyday and I feed with my own home made fish food.

In the beginning feed it everytime it opens most of the time. It will like meaty foods like mysis or larger chunks of your food. For growth you will have to feed each head every other day to every day. The more you feed them the bigger and brighter they get.

I tried the feed in bowl method and they open up, but not a whole lot, their polyps seem as if they can't come out all the way.

Initially it doesn't matter how far they open, assuming it's enough for them to feed. If they're eating (and you're feeding), they'll eventually open more.

i keep alot of these im sorta positive its not dieing since they easily & quickly show there white skeleton when in poor health

Good news! I fed them last night and they ate a but load! :dance: looks like they are getting much better!
