I got this one today from a friend whos tank is being taken over by Aptasia I'm hoping to see if I can save it but need to know if it may be to late the base that is attached to the rock is getting hard the whole thing is turned a yellow color except a couple pieces. Apparently it has been looking like this for over a month it had aptasia all over touching it I have since removed it all and broke off the rock.

Personally, I would remove it to a QT as leathers can spit nasty stuff while stressed. And give it time, they also can make miraculous recoveries. If you have no QT and do not want to set one up, run lots of carbon and up the water changes, just in case.

An iodine dip may help too.

thanks it's actually opening up a little but each day and it's not close enough for the bubble tip to touch I am actually taking the pic standing to the top right of the tank it's the angle that makes it look close............. what will it harm if it "spits" stuff can it kill my fish or anemones? The only other corals in my tank are Kenya trees and Zoas and 1 single green mushroom....

leathers are toxic to all forms of life in your tank should it go bad…i would increase water flow to it and certainly run some carbon if you don't already...

I am already running carbon and doing a 50% water change today I noticed my bubble tip is looking a tad sluggish thanks
