Dying torch

I try to maintain 7. thats neautral. some people prefer higher numbers everyone is different .thats the main difference in sps vs.mixed reef tank or softie tank .(well that and phosphates, lps need some phosphates to keep their color while sps need super low phos to get fully colored ) I read that the germans keep reef tanks 7dkh . and those guys know how to do everything ...lol...i wouldnt let it get any lower . that will effect the rate the calcium is being consumed . my experience high calcium and low alk maintained would make sps coral grow fast and thin , like caps and chalice etc. keeping alk at 7+ made the coral grow slower and thicker .the lps like the lower alk numbers . once i went from 6dkh to 9 to help with girth all my zoas and lps were very unhappy . thats how i got my reef to grow so fast anyway . just my opinion . keep it a secret though . i dont want anyone knowing my tricks .

Wow Franky. 5,6,7,8,9,10 sounds like powerball numbers. All corals do well between 7-8. Keep it stable and you can keep whatever corals you want happy.

Lol no no no. Before I got my dosing pump my alk was always 5 or 6.5 after my dosing pump I got it stable at 7.5 and as I tweaked my dosing increasing times and spreading the dose throughout the night I got it at about 8.5-9 it's been there for a solid three weeks I just threw 10 out to make my sequence complete lol. I just backed the dosing pump down so that I can keep things around 7.5ish to see if it makes the LPS a little happier all changes take place slowly as I learned the hard way what an alk spike or drop does to corals first hand. Thanks for all the feedback
