earth quake proofing...

Thinking the same thing Ugly one...I was planning on jus putting a bracket that caught the wall and the tank in the back. If the wall comes down I will have bigger problems than the tank...:)

You can't really proof it, but you can take extra measures so that it will take a bit of abuse.

A heavier stand with a wider than normal base will help keep it from twisting so that if it moves it moves as an entire object.

A little extra padding between the stand and the tank will help keep it level if one end should lower during a shake.

I was chatting with a couple people from cali in RC's chat room last week and they said you want to bolt the stand to the wall.

my stand is hand made ..the legs and center supports and cross bars are made are of 4x4 studs..it is heavy tank with the sump it takes 2 people to push/ move it forward in order for me to do work on the back.t ...but then again im thinking no matter how you secure it earthquake has a strong force if it rocks it hard enough it will ripp it out of the wall....

Well if it is rocking that hard then you are going to loose the tank anyway. By bolting it to the wall you will keep it from rocking.
