I left to go outta town on friday morning. when i left all fish appeared healthy. I returned on sunday night w/ 13lbs of tonga rock. my buddy fed the fish one time on sat. On sunday i noticed that the harlequin and clown didn't eat.. i figured my buddy may have fed b 4 i returned. i put two powerheads in along w/ the new rock.. The next morning the clown and the harlequin were dead. However the blueline appears to be doing fine.

Water levels were ph 8.1 , nitrates 40, nitrites 0 , ammonia 0. the fish showed no physical signs of disease. Any suggestions

were the dead fish chewed up ? had they been attacked ? two dead fish would raise the nitrates .

What kind of test kits are you using ? the numbers you gave just don't jive . Try a differnt kind of kit .

I am with mitzel, your nitrates are through the roof, but that may be due to 2 dead fish.
either way juvenile clown triggers are notoriously fragile. I personally wouldnt advise one that is under 3 inches. tusk fish are the same way. even adult tusks can be hit and miss. I would let your tank mature for a while and if you want to try and get another tusk, locate one from Australia. They generally tend to arrive much healthier due to better collectiion/shipping conditions.
