Echinata or Speciosa?

DID I SOUNDS SMRT??
Picked these two up for amazing price on boxing week...they need to be color'd up but I think they have huge potential. Could you tell me what species they both are? 1st one I think is echinata or speciosa or maybe turaki....2nd I have no idea.

If you read my post it is on my list.

thanks for the comment though...really! someone has to get the ball rolling.

My guess on the first would be Echinata. It could be Turaki, but it doesn't look like the growth patterns that I've seen from Hawkin's. The second one's got me stumped.

In my opinion, these types of acros can be difficult to identify. Maybe that's why not too many have given their two cents. Beautiful pieces! :)

thanks for you input..my first guess was Echinata as well but I really dont know for sure. These pieces sat at my LFS for almost a couple of weeks I bet. No one even picked them up during boxing day and I got them on sale at the end of boxing week for a steal @ $80 for both.

I realize they are hard to identify....I also think not enough knowledgeable people come over t0 the identification forum though.

The coralites are too rounded and the branching wrong for an echinata, (I have had the Ice Fire and the Tubs Real Deal Echinatas, so I am familliar).

I am leaning more towards Turaki on the first, and am more inclined to say Subglabra or Carduus for the second.

Time will tell, and keepers regardless.

thanks dots.....after looking at some images I think its turaki as well. I hope it colors up blue....looks like its starting.

After looking at pictures of subglabra and Carduus the second doesnt appear to be either of those IMO....the branch structure is very delicate and small which maybe doesnt come out in the picture.

Great finds D!

I would say that the second pic is closer to a turaki.

BTW, the Hawkin's Turaki is not really a turaki. Just like how the Tyree True Undata is not an Undata. Just the names stuck, and now they are there for ID.

For comparison, here is my subglara, speciosa, and turaki:

Hey Vlad. From the picture you posted what you have labeled as turaki is very similar to my second picture. Although when I looked turaki up on the net the images look nothing like the coral you have labeled as turaki (my second pic).....and looks more like the coral in my first pic. Hope that made sense.

P.S. You got a little one yet??
