ecotech opinions

I have a 24x24x12 tank with a corner overflow. im trying to make the decision on which powerheads to go with. The guy at aquaworld said go with two mp10's which i think sounds a bit much. i like the idea of ecotechs, but obviously they come at a nice premium.

That being said i would like some feedback and opinions/suggestions on powerheads. I like the ecotech as i want to conserve space, but two at 230$ a piece is quite expensive.
 
I have a 40 breeder with 1 Mp10. When combined with the return I think it puts out allot of flow. However, because of the length of the 40 breeder and rock structure when my corals start to grow in I may need another to keep higher flow throughout the tank but have both running at a lower power.

That being said I would start with one. With the cube dimensions the mp10 and return will give you allot of flow. At a max of around 1500 gph in A ~30 gallon is 50 gph turnover.
 
i was thinking the same thing, plus i want to keep as much space inside as possible because it is a small tank. are you able to keep sps?
 
If you did 2 you might as well keep a squegee and mop around cuz @ 12" deep and only 24x24 you'd have a hell of a mess!
 
Go to a car dealership and ask them how many options and warranties you should get with your new car.

i was thinking that the guy at aquaworld may have been suggesting overkill. i have no experience with ecotech, im guessing their flow is pretty legit. thanks for the imput
 
One will def work, he probably only suggested two to cover areas that one wouldn't be able to get to with rockwork. And for the sandstorm comment, you don't have to run these 100% all the time.
 
Well im going to be putting up my own attempt at a build thread. everyone, including myself will be able to see what the flow is like when i pick an ecotech up. Is there anyone in the area that stocks the pumps. I have been to oddball and wet pets and neither one stocks the ecotech.
 
I just ordered my ecotech stuff from davesaquastock yesterday. I think he said it should arrive in a day or two. Might want to call or email him and maybe he can add it to order.

Looking forward to your build thread. I am setting up a 24-24-24 cube in the next week and will be starting a thread of my own.
 
ill call dave right now. maybe he can hook it up. i have some diy leds on the way that i will be showing the build. cant wait
 
I took the easy way out and bought a radion. I was almost to the point of ordering all the stuff to DIY and realized I barely have time to build the stand and drill the tank etc and a DIY fixture would have jut taken too long.

Good luck on the build and looking forward to seeing the end result.
 
Were they the wireless versions that can sync. Maybe he was suggesting 2 so they are synched and will alternate flow. Just because you have 2 doesnt mean they are both running at the same time at 100%

and just wondering, what leds are you using for your build?

I haven't gotten it set up yet. It will be sps and clams in tank. There are a few good threa out there on radion cubes.

I did a ton of research and weighing options before deciding on radion. The amount of led I was going to need to get the 24" deep push was alot. I looked into all that I was going to need to get versatility and "ultimate control" of color and brightness etc and decided radion was my best option. To do a proper Cree DIY with dimming control and ability to set it up for auto dimming and spectrum shift from morning to mid day to evening I was well over 500 for DIY components and to get everything I wanted I was goin to have to drop another 450 on a controller. The radion for me was more cost effective right now as it has everything I wanted right now. Plus I had that fear of screwing something up and burning 150 in LEDs. The extra money up front for the radion for me just made more sense instead of risking a high dollar DIY set up that might not give me what I want when built.

i here you, and i might eventually go that way. i spent a little over 200 on a dimmable bridgelux setup. i figure i do not need a ton at only 12" deep.
 
Agreed at 12" you don't need crazy push. I considered dropping to 18" to drop my lighting cost but knew I would regret it. I cut alot of corners for cost on my current tank and refuse to make that mistake again. I don't want to be looking at it in six months wishing I would have done things differently.
 
ya i hope i dont put myself in that position, but i probably will. most of the fun for me is the constant tinkering.
