Ecotech Radion controlled via the GHL ProfiLux Controller

Many people are "on the fence" about the new Radion LED fixtures because the software hasn't been released to GHL yet so they can write the needed code to be able to control them. I just got confirmation today on this very topic directly from EcoTech:

Yes; the Radion was designed to work with the existing controllers that support EcoTech Marine products and the software to do so is currently in development.

So at least we know it really is "in the works" we just have to wait until they release it. At least if someone was "on the fence" about whether or not to buy one based on your ProfiLux investment you can rest pretty well (not 100% yet but close) knowing that the odds are in our favor now. At least Ecotech admits they are going to do this when just 2 weeks ago they pretty much were "hush hush" one way or the other.

:)

Yep this was always a certainty to happen as the existing GHL to Ecotech module will work on the Radions so there is no need to buy anything if you already have the vortech module :)

We are waiting the release of the code from Ecotech which is not far off, if I had to bet on it I would say within the first 3 months of 2012.

When asked about at least a general "Projected date of release" here is what we got back from Ecotech

While I don't have a date, I can tell you that it's something we're aggressively pursuing and will be available sometime in the near future.

Perfect... this works for me. I ordered my Christmas package incl extra PowerBar and Vortech module. Guess it's time to pull the trigger on the Radions. Tank being delivered in 4 weeks!!! Merry Christmas to me :)

Any updates on this subject? I would consider a Radion if the Profilux could control it.

I know EcoTech's software is HIGHLY customizable but it would be great to have direct control from the Profilux.

AJ I was just discussing this very topic yesterday with GHL. Unfortunately we're still waiting for Ecotec to release the code/specs to 3rd party yet. I'm going to go send a message to Ecotec about it right now.

I'm fairly confident that they will indeed be able to talk since a P3 (with GHL to Vortech module) talks with and controls the pumps. It should be fairly simple once the code is released.

This continues to be a big disappointment. I realize it has nothing to do with GHL.
GHL is EAGER to be able to resolve this to help their customers who purchased these units. Fact of the matter Ecotech is just slow getting their part of the equation fixed. Until they get it complete and give it to GHL there's nothing else that can be done...

It seems unfortunately I purchased my rations to soon.

Both are very valid points... but on the FLIP side of things.. I know for a fact there is still a good market for the Radions so all is not lost if you should decide to move up into the Mitras LED unit(s). I don't think you'd be disappointed if you did :)

All I ask is respectfully is not to ask on this forum as it will never give you the answer you want.

Believe me as soon as Ecotech release the developer pack I will be racing to this forum to post the info, so if its not here its not available. Sorry, and hope you understand, but there is no point going over the same thing its not going to change anything.

I am sorry its not the answer you want.

can we program the lights wirelessly from the PC or do we need to plug the lights into the USB?
Mitras will have real wifi module - or only 2.4ghz RF radio?(like radion)
It's very important diffrence.

Thx

The Mitras uses a 2.4ghz module that is built in, this will interface with the GHL module for your profilux, other control will be via pc through USB

I understand, thank you for quick response..
So wireless control via pc or any tablet/phone/iOS device will be not possible?
Why? I was sure that it will be strong POS against radion.. :-(

Through the profilux computer you will be able to control it via your phone without an APP using the onboard webserver.

Wireless networks in a lamp are expensive to do it flawless and reliably which is GHL's main criteria, so I assume in my view cost being the main reason, thats not to say and extension may follow in the near future.

Ok, its clear now.
But I'm not a profilux computer user...
Wireless module isnt so expensive - a specially, when fixture price is above 1k$ :-)
It looks like dedicated lamp for actual ghl users...
I have two tablets in my home(ipad and samsung) and i cant imagine that i will have to buy pc for control it..
Have you any news about Mac software version? When it will be released?
My son have macbook - so maybe that is a way for me...
