Praise all around to Eddies, nice looking fish, great quality water, and excellent staff. (BTW, does anyone know what happened to there huge koi they had in that little pond in front of the salt tank? I heard a bunch of things ranging from they died to they were sold.)

I have been to Davey Jones but never bought a fish there, is there anyone who has bought a fish and has had it for a while? I would like to know the quality of their saltwaters. They appear to have great water quality

Also, swamp bottom is new to me, I have heard a few things, all being positive. If anyone wants to PM or IM and give me a brief overview... it would be appreciated :D.
 
Hey Eric, Don't you work at Healthy Pet Center? (Not sure if I have the wrong Eric Walsh...but I think I met you while I worked there as a customer)

Marine Specialist? What kind of tanks do you have and what do you specialize in?

You are definately NOT a "specialist".... The first thing us real "Specialist" ( read as GEEKS) do when we are in a "new town" or simply traveling places is to open up the yellow pages to the section under "PETS".

I use to buy fish from Davey Jones. Just beware, check the SG he use to keep it around 1.020 or less. It has been sometime since I have purchased a fish from there. His stock is usually there for sometime so you can check them out.

Just acclimate them well and they will be fine. Always examine a fish's health closely before buying. Try not to be overly spontaneous.

I prefer Eddies prices on fish. They turn over fast so it is harder to observe them. They will only hold them for 24 hrs for you.

I buy most of my Livestock online due to pricing and the comfort of having a guarantee ! ;)

Don't mind ESPI you will come to find out he is a Ball Buster. Isss all good, But unless you have a degree in Marine Biology I wouldn't claim to be a specialist. Just my .02

Only got FW at Davey Jones so I'm no help there. Eddies gets some nice items. I think Swampbottom is definately worth the drive for selection and staff though.

Kris, FWIW 1.020 is not low for stores. Higher o2 in the water, and helps keep disease outbreaks low. I always check the sg of my bag water- no matter where it comes from. I was suprised the first time I checked.
 
Yeah thats exactly why they keep it low. That and I'm sure it saves a couple bucks. I believe it was below 1.020 but i can't remember for sure as it has been sometime.
 
let me give you a brief explaination: im 19 years old and i got offered a job at the healthy pet center around july of this year, they offered me the same position as linda C. i got offered this job because i always used to be in their store (which is a 5 min car ride there from my house) looking at and buying their saltwater fish. they started up their tanks in the store the same time i started my saltwater tank. i never really got out to any of the other stores because i didnt know anyone else who was really interested in saltwater fish until my cousin started up a little salt tank and he found out about eddies, so i have been there a few times, but never bought a fish from there, just a piece of live rock and a few small inverts. i also never got to check out other stores because of my heavy schedual with work (i have held a job at Price Chopper since june '04 as well as the healthy pet center in july of this year) and college.

as far as what tanks i have, it goes-
55gal: foxface rabbit fish, yellow tang, coral beauty, porcupine puffer, six line wrasse, domino four stripe blue devil yellow tail damsels, two chocolate chip stars, bunch of different crabs, lots of rock work.
29gal: flower anenome, condi anenome, anthellia, six false perc clowns, blue mandarin, boxer crab, porceline crab, emerald crabs.
5gal: one big piece of live rock, 1 emerald crab, random polyps that have been growing. i want to turn this into a sea horse tank someday.
the only fish i ever lost in the year i have had salt tanks was one sailfin and i never really knew why he died.

I dont know too much about the stores around me, but, i do know what im talking about when it comes to saltwater fish. I'm new to this site so if anyone has any pointers, send me a message
 
y'all...fwiw...re-read my note and try to hear a non-negative voice. When I posted it was late and I just got back to my hotel room at MACNA. I had been hearing speakers and going to workshops all day with people that are considered specialists. I wasn't sure if I had the correct Eric. Either way, I didn't know if this Eric who posted specialized in something specific.

Thanks for your introduction Eric and Welcome. Now I understand why you mentioned being a marine specialist.

What you were saying that you're dedicated exclusively to the marine aquariums with several variety of salt and reef tanks with more to come. Keep up the good work!

Your onto something Dave. Maybe if I got a cleaner wrasse it would reduce my house cleaning chores :lol:

i have gotten my yellow tang to eat some of the darker greens before like larger spinage leaves and romaine when clipped. i havent caught my foxace eating any yet.

cleaner wrasses are in and out at the store, we get them quite often.

as far as the dirty wrasse goes, we had a wrasse jump out of the tank so he must have gotten dirty right??
 
Hey Dave- we haven't been able to get any cleaner wrasses in at HPC for a while... The last couple orders we had of cleaner wrasses were about 3 weeks ago and didn't fare so well...I'll let you know if we get any good ones in.
