In today's Los Angeles Times business section. 8% over 3 years starting with this August's bill . Electricity is now my biggest expense in keeping my reef tank:eek1:

We're getting a 72% increase come July 1 in Maryland. Might still be less than you're paying... but this deregulation stuff is crap!

Whaddyamean, Eric? Deregulation means cheaper prices and better service!

Just ask anyone in California. :rolleye1:

Don't get me going on the crap republican economics...

Bottom line on all their programs, Make the rich richer at the expense of the ever decreasing middle calss.

If they say the economy is good, it is good for those who benefit from the crap 70billion tax break thatthey just passed. Average america will see $54 a year from that break.

GRRRR... see you got me going....

It's the working class that drives this country and makes it what it is. Not the rich or the poor, but the average working person. We all end up paying for everyone else. NICE.

We need to get the group buy on solar power going before I have to get rid of my tank!

Absolutely! I think it would be a great project. Even if we came up with a standard for running a few aquarium devices.

I was thinking today that Bill Gates should use his fortune to cover every home in America with solar roof tiles. Think of the impact on our oil requirements!

You should all move to anaheim....Power=cheap!

Just curious how much electricty is in Anaheim?

i am adding a 12Kw solar electricity system to my soon to start house remodel project. pricey but it will pay for itself in a few years and then i can retire and play with the fish/corals for free.

Stop bragging:D ha ha My monthly is 1.5 times that and its actually becoming a concern. I could drive a nice Mercedes for my monthly payment.

If you don't mind, how much does a unit like that run and how many panels are needed. It obviously would not cover my usage, but could bring the over the 100% fees down, as that is where the meat of my bill is. If I could cut it in half (saving 250) a month, I wonder what the payoff return would be.

Thanks
Tony

my bill with Los Angeles DWP is about $1,000 for two months. i have a large Koi pond also that takes about 2Kw 24/7 plus the reef tanks.

the system we are considering is a 12Kw system which should just about cover me 100%. if you produce more on a yearly basis than you consume you do not get any money back from DWP. just a zero bill.

this system is about $65,000 and should have a payback in 8-10 years and then it's free for the rest of my life.

most people would not need such a large system.

i have been told the most residential sytems are 3-6 Kw systems
