Educate me on tuning the noise from my drain

And just like that $6 later we have silence!

Now granted I can still hear the drain water rushing down the plumbing but can play with flow to tune, the sucking and gurgling is now gone.

From where the holes are to the end of the elbow it's maybe an inch or two. In the overflow box -and I'm gonna go out on a limb on that- is maybe half a gallon of extra water. My point is that you don't need to break the siphon there there's not too much gain. If it were me, I'd simply replace the elbow like you said with a non drilled one and just leave the hole on the top only. Actually, in mine, I have a stockman which is very similar. The only noise I have is from water bubbles in the overflow compartment in the sump.

Moreover, on the return pump. I have an oversized pump as well. The best way to combat that is not a valve choking the pump but rather a spill-back back to the sump and control the flow from there. That way you don't put back-pressure on your pump (more than you need to anyway since the water column height will put some) and you can finely control the amount of water going downstream to the return in the tank. That's how I have setup mine as well.

Ta Da!

@Davehead86, what additional attention does the Herbie require. i just set one up, what do I need to watch out for?

You need to watch out for Thorndyke!

Lol if that makes no sense then you did not grow up in the 70s watching Disney movies. Google Herbie and Thorndyke - lame joke but couldn't resist.

From what i understand you have to mess with the gate valve all the time to keep the flow consistant and prevent it from making noise. The durso is self adjusting and does not require working with a gate valve at all.

Again, just what I understand as Ive read it here. Correct me if I am wrong.

What exactly do we have here?

I find that my Herbie only requires adjusting if flow changes drastically.

Most the time, i need to adjust mine if i get algae buildup on my drain teeth, which slows down the flow into the overflow. The herbie then drains the water too fast, and you end up with a slurping sound.

That said, the algae and my overflow teeth is the real issue and would be moot if i fixed it.

So I was able to use the base of my Dorso overflow tube and just pulled the top off. Grabbed a 1.25" street 90, T, cap and short length of pipe. 1/4" od tubing and a tube of DAP silicon although I did not end up needing it as my not was perfect size. Drilled hole in cap, added tubing and valve leftover from RODI and push all parts together (no glue) put back in overflow and silence.

Uh, no.

I'm using a 2 drain set up that I call the 'Todd Overflow' (irks Bean and a few others).
It's basically a herbie style- but differs in that my drains are draining a True coast to coast 72" lond overflow built into my 180.
The drains are using 2 holes drilled in the back upper wall- 1.5" ID bulkheads.

The 2 drains works much the same, I adjust the siphon line with a valve, and forget it. Quiet, VERY quiet, and works like as champ. the second drain is for any slight extra, and/or clogged siphon.
The air vent line on the second line bends back in my overflow- so if and when the water gets up near the top, it turns the second line into a com;plete siphon- quickly emptying the overflow- unobstructed- no valve on that second line.

*** To The OP-

If you're not going to go with 2 drains;

- put the end of the air vent line back in the overflow, so when the water gets up that high, it turns it into a complete siphon!
