Hello everyone--
I'm student teaching at a middle school in Corvallis, Oregon and I'm doing a unit on oceanography. Being a long-time reef geek, I really want to set up a 20 gallon tank in the class. I've secured $250 to fund the tank, and i've already got the aquarium, a canister filter (for circulation), a couple of whisper filters (also circulation-only) and a heater. I'm looking for lights (I'd love to put a little halide on there), a protein skimmer (maybe I'll just do skimmerless?) and of course, live stock.
Is anyone familiar with a company that offers discounts for educational purposes? The LFS here is kind, but not doing very well and can't offer a whole lot. Also, I suppose this is a shameless request for cheap/free gear! I'll gladly pay shipping as well.
Also, any ideas for a nice, simple tank? I was thinking macroalgaes, long-tentacled anemone, clownfish, goby and pistol shrimp. Nice 3" sandbed and 5-10 lbs of LR.
Thanks *very* much--, from me and about 140 rabid 8th graders.
