Eel netting?

I'd like to get an eel and was wondering what you guys were using to keep the eel from escaping...I'm thinking of using something perforated like netting or eggcrate so I don't affect lighting or gas exchange....

also what do you recommend in regards to eels?

It really depends on the size of the eel. Egg crate is great if the eel is big enough. Do you have any lids now?

I used window screen and frame from Lowes. They have everything you need to build the frame and add the screen. Cheap, easy and looks good.

First question i guess i have is how big of tank are you giong to be putting this eel in?. Will it be the only thing in the tank or will thier be fish with the eel? We need to know this before we can try to help you as to what will work and what will not work.

The eel will be housed in my 240g glass tank...

Assasi trigger
Niger trigger
Porcupine puffer
Dogface puffer
Pair of Heniochus
Emperor Angel
Marine Betta

And possibly a Harlequin Tuskfish later on...

The only safe choices in eels than would be a Snow flake. Zebra eel, or a Goldentail. SFE will get about 3' a Zebra will get 4' and a Goldentail will get 2'.

here's another question for you...what if I have a closed loop system with open 1.5" bulkheads, do you think I will have a problem with the SFE climbing in to one of the pipes?

Likely. But that can be solved. I forget what the name is, but there are little grates that you can screw into such bulkheads. Look them up on the various supply sites.

You need to put strainers on your CL intakes. You need to do this even if you don't get an eel. They are about 5-6 bucks and screw/slip right in.

I have zebra and snowflake in my 210 with open tops. The zebra rarely ventures away from the bottom and is not much of a risk to climb out. I worry about the snowflake, but so far (9 months), he was been fine.

The question wasn't about putting the strainers on the intake...it would be really dumb not to put them there, especially with a Sequence hammerhead as your closed loop pump, I really wanted to know if anyone was adding some type of screening or grate to cover the outlet holes from the closed loop?

Thanks for the reply though...

If anyone knows where I can get these small insertable grates please let me know...
