Eel Question.

Ok. So if you do or dont know, here is the update.

In my tank I have a few crabs, a few snails, one cleaner wrasse. A stonefish and a snowflake eel.

I bought the snowflake and stone in Jun. At the time I had the hardest choice to make, a lighter or darker colored snowflake. Now they both loved each other and the stonefish, for the month I was deciding if I should get them, I checked on them twice a week for 4 weeks, never did I see the two eels apart, or away from the stonefish... I went with darker eel in the end after all the scouting..

Now its almost Movember, and everytime I go into the store that other snowflake is there, and I feel terrible for spliting them up.. I always wondered if they were a pair, and thats why one was light or darker than the other.

There in lies my question. Do you think they were a pair? Is it too late to re-unite them in the a 4x2x2 tank? Would they even re-unite?

Im not very good at eel pysch, but I want to ask, because I do feel terrible for the other guy who has now been at the store for sooo long.. I feel just as bad for the huge dragon moray thats been there forever too, almost going on 8 months now.

If it counts, eels are still about the same size as each other, one hasnt out grown the other by leaps and bounds by any means, id say mine is bigger cause it gets a silverside diet vs a mysis diet. but not by much.

I see 'mated pairs' available from time to time, and I've even read about breeding like behavior in Morays. I don't know if your moray misses his old tank mate, but you've got room in your 120, and 2 morays is better than 1 :)

I say go for it.

If I picked them up.. how long could I expect squabbles for before they kinda cooled their jets.. im sure there will be a couple of fights for sure as they sniff each other out and measure each other up.

From what I've read I don't think it should be a problem. It seems that the same species of eels can get along with one another if still juvies. I'd love to have 2 eels in my take and I would hesitate if I had the opportunity. Someone else chime in but I don't feel you would have a problem.

How big are they ? I wouldn't go to heavy on the silversides.

Nah, you won't likely see any fights. It's always nerve racking, but just have a feeding stick or something else to break it up in the unlikely event of a tussle. Even if there is one, don't expect too much damage. They aren't called pebble tooth morays for nothing.

And Moray Keeper's absolutely right... try feeding them grocery store seafood with pet store vitamins or mazuri predator diet.

Are silversides bad for them?? What do you feed your Morays?

They're pricey too... for what you get anyway. Snowflakes put you in the happy position of feeding mostly what you want... they're part of a group that fairly mix their diet between fish and inverts. Shrimp, squid and bony fish will make your eel very happy, and if buy it at the super market and keep it frozen, you'll save money in the long run.

And again, for extra nutrition, go with mazuri predator diet.
