eel tank mates

I was just reading a different thread and it suggested not putting puffers in with eels. I have a wolf eel in tank now with a yellow belly dog face in QT waiting to go in the same tank. Are they compatible or am I headed for disaster?

If it wont work, can the puffer go in a reef setup instead? Wasn't my plan, but it may work. Also what other eels will work with the wolf? In the process of upgrading to a 125 for size too.

I had kept a dogface with SFE and blackedge some years ago and never had issues with the puffer picking on the eels...I wouldn't add the puffer to a reef though.

I know very little about green wolfs but I would not put the puffer in a reef. My LFS had an equal sized fimby and green wolf together for about a week. One day the wolf was in 2 pieces. I'd avoid adding a fimby.

First off wolf eels aren't true eels, they're actually dottybacks. They are similar to eels in that they are highly predatory, anything that they think they can get down will be considered food, but on the low end of the aggressive scale. Unless the puffer is very small I wouldn't worry about the wolf eel trying to eat it. I would worry about the puffer picking on the wolf eel, however.

IMO something will happen sooner or later.

its hit or miss. i have a wolf eel and she is pretty docile. she is with a fuzzy lion and cockatoos wasp fish

puffers are naturally curious. its only a matter of time before the puffer wil p*** it off and the eel with take action

So, what to do? The wolf is roughly 12" and the puffer is 4-5" long. Puffer can stayin QT for another two weeks, but I wont have the larger tank ready by then for space. QT is a 29, how long can he stay there? No meds have been used yet. I got him straight out of the dealer bag into a cleaned QT and he is showing no signs of anything.

Also excuse my ignorance, but what is a fimby?
