what eels can i keep in a 40 breeder?

can i get a 1 or a pair of fimbriated moray eels or would a 55 be better?

I would go with the 55. I think the dimensions are a little better plush you will have room to add other fish that are big enough to not be eaten.

Get the biggest you have room for and can afford. You can keep either eel in either tank but I would go with a bigger tank if you want to have other fish in there

I wouldn't do less than a 75 for a fimby. Mine started out in that and he definitely outgrew it. He is in a 150 6ft tank and uses all of it.

i would like to keep a pair of fimbriated moray eels and 2 other eels. what tank will i need and what eels can i keep with the fimbriated moray eels?

that will be tough considering the aggression level...I'd look into a 6' tank minimum, although it depends on the other eels

could i do these in the 40

Wolf Eel (Congrogadus subducens)
Jeweled Moray Eel (Muraena lentiginosa)
Snowflake Eel (Echidna nebulosa)

wolf eels are very aggresive IME. only one of those in that set up would be ok.

for all 3 you would need to move to a 75 or so for all 3

The wolf eel would be a meal. I wouldn't go with the jewel/ snowflake combo in that tank. Better off with the jewel with some other large fish or the snowflake with other large fish or maybe the snowflake with another moray like the chainlink or banded for example.

I have a Zebra Moray that's about 3ft long and he uses all of the tank.Although they mostly stay in a cave all day, they do swim at night. Also, Make sure your rockwork is super strong, to prevent a tankalanch.Eels are very Very Strong.

can i keep a pair of fimbriated moray eels and a pair of Zebra Moray Eel in the same tank?

I don't really like that combo. Multiple zebras are usually ok providing the tank is not too small and there are ample hiding places, and to a degree you can maybe get by with a pair of fims but you could have problems with either especially the fims and I wouldn't put the two pairs together even if you were considering going with a larger tank then the ones you had mentioned. The fims are a much more aggressive eel overall and you will have to worry not only about feeding time which is when the problems if any seem to arise the most but also tankmate aggression over hiding spots, close confinement, etc. If your thinking a pair of zebras with a couple of larger fish you should be ok providing the tank has a little size.

How big of a tank are you thinking for this though?

A pair of fimbys that are raised together in the same 75 may do alright, but you're dealing with an exceedingly aggressive species here... if they aren't within an inch or two of the same size, and/or you miss a feeding, one of your eels is getting disfigured at best. IMHO 40 gallons to too small for almost any moray species, mostly due to filtration constraints.

If the fims are purchased at about the sane time, pretty close in size, and preferably somewhat small I think you should be ok but I would be very cautious at feeding time and go heavy on the filtration/ skimming.

I wouldn't put a pair of fimbys in a 75 for long. My fimby outgrew his 75 by himself pretty fast. I would go for a 6ft tank for 2, doesn't need to be that tall just long. A 6ft 110 would do fine, mine is in a 6ft 150 and definitely uses the length.
