Eff it...Treating tank for ich. Need advice for copper use

Lost my prized Regal Angel today due to ich. No amount of feeding over the past 5 months helped him to completely repell it. I’m done with this parasite. I’ve decided to give copper a try. I will be planning on setting up a QT and I will from now on QT EVERY FISH before it enters my display.

No other fish have shown signs of ich besides the occasional itch or a couple dots here and there but I’m not chancing it as I know it’s in the system. I will move all fish in the system and treat in the QT and let the tank sit fallow (9 weeks I believe?)

I’ve never used copper before so I’m a little unsure and I’m not at all confident in my ability to perform this properly at all. If there is a well documented read with specific instructions or if someone wouldn’t mind sharing some advice or pointers I would really appreciate it. I know that not all fish will do well with the copper and I do have a shark that I won’t be able to treat as well so if you could also glance at my fish list and lmk the best treatment for anything that may not survive the specific copper treatment. Also, what size QT should I consider based on its load...

Fish List

2 yellow tangs 3”
Blue tang 4”
2 chromis
Long nose hawk fish

-Wrasse
Melanurus wrasse
Yellow corris wrasse
Cleaner wrasse
Mystery wrasse
Blue head wrasse

-Miscellaneous
Coral cat shark
Zebra eel

I have a stacked QT system available. Metal stand. 3 x 20 gallon long tanks, maxi jets etc.

pm me your number. Everything is just a few months old. $150.

Copper Power and a Hanna Copper Checker is the way to go. 1.0ppm copper initially then ramp it up to between 1.75 and 2.0ppm over the course of a few days.

Or you can use Choloquine Phosphate, but I don't have experience with it.

When you say ramp up, how long should the treatment last and how long should they remain in 1.75? I’ve read that not maintaining the proper dosage will render the entire QT ineffective

Ramp up meaning you go from 1.0ppm to 2.0pmm over say 4 or 5 days. At least 30 days at 2.0ppm.

Be careful with eel and shark. I heard those type can't handle Copper.

I have been using Cupramine with Seachem test kit for many years. Copper level at 0.6 mg/l

Shark will die with copper. I’ve read that eels do not contract ich. Can anyone confirm this? I’ve also read that sharks can not get ich but they can host it (as in ich does not feed off the shark) in the same was as how ich can come on coral or inverts by riding along at a specific time of their life cycle.

Will not work for shark and eel with hypo. Might work for TTM with them. Also display us corals so no go on hypo

Do u have uv in your system? For a fish only I definitely recommend a uv. Ich is always in your tank its up to your water quality and the fish abilities to fight it off. Thats why even some tank dont have ich for years and all of a sudden it has it even though no new fish were introduce to the tank. When fish got stress ich will appear.

I've always thought about this that no matter what u do it's going to b there

I do have a UV but the problem is that not all the water comes in contact with it. On top of that it probably isn’t as powerful as needed. Every fish I lose over the past few years has been from ich. I’m just over it. I need to make some changes starting with my husbandry. I would like to agree with you with thinking that it may be in the system but if you’ve visited public aquariums that have biologists performing top notch husbandry... there’s not a spot of ich in their systems no matter how many fish or how hard you look. It’s our poor husbandry that introduces it is what I can safely assume. Maybe I’m wrong. Idk
